LA screenplay Competition Winners Announced!

By Briege McGarrity

Upscale Confidential was the venue for announcing the award winners from the 2013 LA Screenplay Competition. A total of 27 writers competed in three categories with seven writers taking home much-coveted awards in a variety of genres. The competition is aimed at establishing and identifying talented new screenwriters from across the country and around the world.

Grace written by Jeffrey Allen Russel received top honors. Brian Weakland’s screenplay Last Waltz of Vienna was a close second and The Unspoken, co- written by Mary Avila and Scott Marcano was awarded third place. Apparently the standard of the entries was so high that the judging team added two new categories. Fourth and fifth place were given respectively to Stephen M. Hunt for Hearts of Cold Stone, and Exaction penned by Nick Bailey. Solstice, written by Mayank Kushwah, was awarded Best Short Screenplay, and Best Teleplay went to Small Potatoes written by Charles Laulette.

Dynamic film producer Rafael Primorac (Game of Death, Mysteria, Giallo) presented each winner with a stunning David Orgell crystal vase, and all semi-finalists received certificates. Sponsors for the evening included Racinne, David Orgell, Confidential and Independent Film Quarterly.
